Mission Statement
The Academy of Medical Psychology (AMP) is a membership organization for those who are interested or trained in medical psychology. AMP was founded in 1998 to provide a number of membership services, including continuing education, mentoring, recruitment of those wanting to become involved in medical psychology, and to promote research on the practice of medical psychology. The members of AMP are dedicated to advocating for and spreading the practice of Medical Psychology.Medical Psychology: The practice of medical psychology involves an awareness of and training in medical, psychological, and social factors that inform a broad spectrum of services including psychological diagnosis, treatment, consulting about the use of psychotropic medications, and prescribing of psychotropic medication within the scope of the practice of the profession. Inaugural issue of The Archives of Medical Psychology The May 2010 issue of the Archives is now available for reading or download HEREAMP opposes APA Division 55's application for an ABPP in Medical Psychology. The Academy of Medical Psychology is the first and premier certifying body for medical psychology since its inception. Recently, Division 55, the psychopharmacology division of APA decided that psychopharmacology and medical psychology are one and the same. AMP president, Dr. James Childerston, sent a letter to ABPP director, David Cox, opposing any attempt to infringe on AMP's trademarks.
